MODESTO, Calif. (April 16, 2012) –With the construction completed on the new student services building at Modesto Junior College, projected to gain LEED Silver certification, students will enjoy a more centralized, modern building.
The new 23,950-square-foot building was funded through the passing of Yosemite Community College District’s $326 million Measure E bond. The bond improvement program, which began in 2005, covers both of the District’s Modesto Junior College and Columbia College campuses. Through its aggressive program and construction management, Kitchell was able to provide the District with enough bid savings to enable the funding of more projects.

Previously, student services functions had a number of locations spread across the East Campus. The new $17.5 million student services building centralizes most of student services to a single location, making access for students and staff more convenient. The new building also gives space back to the journalism building, a portion of the library, and East Campus student center, which were housing parts of student services.
Current projects include a Science and Community Center on the Modesto campus, and a renovation of Founder’s Hall at Columbia, which serves as the main classroom building. The new buildings will be built to LEED Silver certification, meeting requirements in energy efficiency, lower water use, interior air quality and use of recycled materials.
