Zara Torosyan’s introduction to Kitchell came before she ever stepped into a law school classroom. Through her colleague and mentor, Leatrice Kitchell, Sam Kitchell’s daughter-in-law, she learned about the company’s history and reputation. As she built her construction law career in Phoenix, that familiarity grew.
Now, she’s joining the team.
Zara brings more than 12 years of construction law experience to her new role as Kitchell’s Vice President, General Counsel. She will work alongside executive and operational leaders to help navigate legal and business matters, supporting informed decisions and the company’s continued growth.
“Kitchell’s history, strong reputation and commitment to innovation made this an exciting opportunity,” Zara said. “I’m honored to join the team and look forward to supporting the people and projects that shape its future.”
Her background includes five years as Vice President and Associate General Counsel for the Southwest region of a national contractor, advising teams on contracts, risk management, disputes and other business matters. Earlier in her career, she represented architects, engineers and contractors in complex construction disputes.
That experience shaped her collaborative approach and her interest in helping operational leaders translate legal concepts into business decisions. Her first priority at Kitchell is getting to know the people behind those decisions.
“I’m looking forward to getting to know the people and learning the business from the ground up,” Zara said. “Every organization has its own culture, strengths, and ways of working, and I’m excited to learn what makes Kitchell successful and find ways to support those efforts.”
For Wendy Cohen, Kitchell’s CEO, that emphasis on relationships is a strong foundation.
“What excites me most about Zara is her proactive approach and enthusiasm for working alongside our leaders,” Wendy said. “She’s eager to get to know our people and how we work, build strong relationships and engage early to help our teams navigate challenges and pursue opportunities. I’m excited about the partnership she will bring to Kitchell in this role.”
An Arizona State University graduate, Zara earned both her law degree and a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry. She is also fluent in Armenian and Russian.
Outside work, Zara enjoys outdoor adventures with her husband and daughter. An avid runner, she has completed several World Marathon Majors, including the Boston Marathon and the New York City Marathon.
